Virtually every componenet in a Zoom modem is changed, as is board
layout when Rockwell sends us the new ROM for a new modem. Circuitry for a
2400, 2400 v42bis, or a V32(bis) modem have different requirements, for
both power & support components. So there is no upgrade path for any
Zoom/modem to any other level of modem, with the exception of the V32(bis)
modem series (it is possible to upgrade a v32 to v32bis [not Turbo modem]).
Some Mfrs do make a hi-end modem, then put low-end ROMs in it, which
then allows an upgrade path. This makes the low-end modem cost more than it
should, and makes the final hi-speed modem cost more too. so Zoom does not
do this.
